Food Waste

Per California state law (Senate Bill 1383), food waste should now be disposed of in your green organics barrel. This mandates that by 2025, the state must reduce organic waste disposal by 75% from 2014 levels and rescue at least 20% of currently disposed edible food. This encourages composting, recycling, and food recovery efforts. Check with your city to confirm if you bag food waste or not before adding it to your barrel. Remember, food waste is NOT accepted in the trash container anymore. Home composting and vermicomposting are encouraged to reduce organic waste.
